The Players Tribune is a website which has players across sports, have opened up about themselves. Many footballers, such as Aaron Ramsdale, Ilkay Gundogan, Fabinho and Richarlison have written about their experience with European football and their journeys. 

The latest addition to their library is by Manchester United star, Marcus Rashford, titled ‘Who I Really Am’. The winger wrote about his journey to stardom at the club, his relationship with the club and how unhappy he was with how the media is treating him.

Rashford revealed that he had written the article for the website for a way for fans to know and understand him. He said he was introverted, but a limit had been crossed which he couldn’t ignore. Recently the 26-year-old winger has been in the news, in trouble for various reasons such as parking charges, car accidents and night-outs before matches. Rashford believed the media was just waiting for a phase like this to vilify him.

Rashford called out people who doubted his commitment to Manchester United, claiming it was an attack on his entire identity and everything he stands for as a man. He claimed he will be the first to address the mistakes he’s made and he’s not perfect. 

It’s like somebody questioning my entire identity, and everything I stand for as a man. I grew up here. I have played for this club since I was a boy. My family turned down life-changing money when I was a kid so I could wear this badge.

In the Tribune, Rashford also wrote about his obsession with buying cars, stating that the reason he bought many was because no one in his family had any. He also stated that he once refused to take photos with Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney as he believed he would play alongside them, which he did. 

Fans call out “PR” by Marcus Rashford

When Marcus Rashford announced that he had written an article for The Player Tribune, he was dismissed immediately. Many called it a PR stunt, and asked him to pay attention to football. Some did praise him, saying he needed to call out the media who targeted him.

Marcus Rashford has not recreated his performances from the previous seasons. So far he has managed only five goals and six assists. Manchester United are also 6th in the league, out of all European competitions and the FA Cup is the only way they could finish the season with a trophy.
