Martin Tyler, one of the Premier League’s most recognizable voices for nearly 30 years, will quit Sky Sports ahead of the next season. As Sky’s principal Premier League analyst since its debut in 1992, the 77-year-old made an unmistakable impression on English football. His voice is intrinsically tied with some of the most legendary moments in football history.
The 77-year-old has decided to retire from Sky after a stellar career that began just before the Premier League’s inception in 1990. He formerly worked for ITV. Tyler’s voice is one of the most recognizable in sports broadcasting history, having commented on countless major events during the Premier League era. However, he has not confirmed his retirement from calling the sport.
Arguably his most famous moment was covering Manchester City’s final-day title triumph against QPR. His iconic “Agueroooooooo!” as Sergio Aguero sealed the first Premier League title for Manchester City in 2011/12. His other iconic moments include commenting on Stan Collymore’s famous goal for Liverpool against Newcastle United and Wayne Rooney’s iconic bicycle kick against Manchester City.
“It has been a privilege to play a small part in the broadcasting history of the greatest league in the world. Along the way I have worked alongside legions of wonderful professionals in all aspects of the television industry,” said Tyler about his time with the broadcaster.

Chelsea finalizing shirt sponsor
According to Football Insider, Chelsea are nearing a front-of-shirt sponsorship agreement with gambling company Stake. The Blues presently lack a sponsor for the coming season, since their contract with British phone giant Three expires this summer. A one-year contract with stake is said to be nearing completion.
Three paid £40 million every year to feature on the front of Chelsea’s jersey, and the North Londoners were looking for a similar sum in their next contract. However, the club’s poor 2022/23 season and failure to qualify for Champions League football has complicated negotiations. Chelsea and Allianz were in early talks for a front-of-shirt arrangement. However, negotiations between Chelsea and Allianz have come to a standstill, with the German finance firm only ready to provide roughly £20-25 million every season.
Chelsea has instead gone to Stake, who presently sponsors Everton. Stake’s offering was much more than Allianz’s bid and far closer to Chelsea’s £40 million aim. The Stake arrangement, however, can only be a short-term solution for Londoners, since the top flight has implemented a front-of-shirt gambling prohibition.
