In a dramatic turn of events, Manchester United‘s former striker Mason Greenwood and Harriet Robson announced that they are expecting their first child. Earlier this week, the player, recently discharged from r*pe charges, was seen in a local supermarket with Robson.

The news, as reported by the Sun, said that the player and his partner are expecting their first child together. The two have been involved in a legal battle since January 2022 when Greenwood was held by Crown Prosecution Services for charges of attempted r*pe and other misconduct.

The 21-year-old player is still suspended by his parent club, Manchester United. However, he is still entitled to his £75,000 per week salary. Although the CPS has exonerated Greenwood, the club has already said that it will conduct its own research and decide if he would be inducted into the Manchester United team.

Greenwood was detained in January 2022 after a video of Robson bleeding was posted on social media. Law enforcement confirmed that as a result, Greenwood would face trial. This news was soon followed by Nike cancelling its contract with him. Manchester United also suspended the player. Earlier this year, the prosecution ruled that he charges and proceedings were dropped.

Can Mason Greenwood rejoin Manchester United?

Since his early days in the academy, Mason Greenwood was touted as a hot prospect by Manchester United insiders. The player has impeccable technique and the ability to play with both feet.

In the season before he got arrested, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Greenwood had scored five goals and one assist in just 18 games in the Premier League as a 19-year-old. In total, Greenwood has scored 22 goals and four assists in 83 Premier League games.

Currently, Manchester United does require a striker that can score goals. Eric Ten Hag’s side is surprisingly underpowered in the striking department with Wout Weghorst not being able to hit the ground running and Anthony Martial injured. While Marcus Rashford is in an extraordinary run of forms, it is also not normal for a top side to have only one source for goals.

There is added pressure from the women’s team to throw the player out of the club. Natalie Burell, the founder of MUSC Women opposed the idea of bringing back the former striker.

United need to make a statement and letting him back would be the worst thing they could do. I don’t want to see him training, in a kit, or coming out at Old Trafford again. And I’m confident they won’t (let him).

The club’s decision might be swayed by the fact that Greenwood fits a lot of the bills that Ten Hag wants in his strikers. Now it remains to be seen what the club finally decides on the subject.
