Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, in a recent post-match interview following Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over Preston in the FA Cup, drew a surprising parallel between Raheem Sterling and David Beckham after Sterling’s exceptional free-kick in their FA Cup win.

In the 69th minute, the 29-year-old ex-Manchester City forward netted a remarkable free-kick, elevating Chelsea‘s lead to 3-0. In the build-up to the free-kick, Cole Palmer was fouled near the box, setting up the set-piece, which Sterling confidently executed, curling the ball beyond Preston’s goalkeeper, Freddie Woodman. This goal becomes Sterling’s seventh of the season, a highlight in a less-than-impressive run for Chelsea.

In the post-match press conference, Mauricio Pochettino commended Raheem Sterling for his impressive goal, humorously suggesting that the free-kick might have had the legendary English midfielder and set-piece specialist David Beckham, shaking.

Beckham, known for his record of scoring the most direct free-kicks in the Premier League, was subtly referenced while Pochettino highlighted Sterling’s unique skill. The manager hinted that with dedication and practice, Sterling could excel in scoring such spectacular free-kicks.

I told him after the game that David Beckham is shaking. That is the quality he has. You can practice every day, but you have to take the freekick and score.

Sterling netted the fourth goal in the game as the West London team secured a 4-0 victory against Preston North End, advancing to the FA Cup‘s fourth round. This marks his second successful free-kick of the season, following his earlier goal against Newcastle on November 25th last year.

Chelsea clinched a convincing 4-0 win against EFL Championship team Preston North End during the FA Cup’s third round, securing a spot in the fourth round. Dominating the match, Chelsea managed to get 12 of their 24 shots on target right from the beginning of the crucial FA Cup fixture.

Despite a rough patch in the Premier League, Chelsea comfortably secured an FA Cup victory, with goals courtesy of Armando Broja, Raheem Sterling, Thiago Silva, and Enzo Fernandez. Holding 70% possession, they completed 695 passes, thrice their opponent’s count. Broja netted the first goal from Malo Gusto’s 58th-minute cross, while Thiago Silva’s header from a corner made it 2-0 by the 66th minute. Sterling’s free-kick and Enzo’s goal later solidified Chelsea’s four-goal lead, sealing a dominant win.
