Galatasaray’s striker Mauro Icardi was seen making a run in the Fenerbahce penalty box when the defender dismantled him. In the video, it can be seen that he was hit and kicked. This then suffered a collision with the goal-post, resulting in the injury.

Icardi shared a picture on his Instagram with his wife, Wanda Nara Icardi where the couple sported black eyes as a comical response to the situation. Following the game, Galatasaray also released an official statement.

They further asked for justice for the incident, where even the 26 cameras and VAR couldn’t capture their players’ injuries. They also articulated the people who have brought the Turkish League. To the state of fouling each other and facing no repercussions be held liable. The match ended in a draw as both sides should have capitalized on their chances.

Galatasaray was denied a penalty for the incident in the most coveted rivalry of the Turkish Super Ligue. However, this did not elicit a positive response from the Fenerbahçe players. They saw this opportunity as Icardi and Galatasaray begging for sympathy and making more out of a situation than was needed.

Edin Dzeko was left unamused with Mauro Icardi’s Instagram post, as he recollected his instance of hitting the goalpost and then blaming the Fenerbahçe defense for injuring him seriously resulting in the ‘Black-Eye‘.

Galatasaray sit in the second position just behind Fenerbahçe but they share the points. They are both tied with 44 points which adds up to the rivalry between the two in the Turkish Super Ligue.

Icardi has above 15 goals for Galatasaray so far in 20 appearances and has been a pivotal forward for the club. Icardi contested for the spot-kick but was denied by the referee. Galatasaray will face Fenerbahçe again in the Turkish Super Cup and the two clubs will be looking forward to winning the fixture and gaining bragging rights over the other.
