Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario was no stranger to the spotlight. The legendary striker marked an era at Real Madrid when the club announced his signing back in 2002. Two decades later, the club is now in a similar situation, with the much-anticipated transfer of Kylian Mbappe. The club has time and again ‘struggled’ to finalize a deal with Paris Saint-Germain and the player in the last few seasons.
However, Ronaldo has now admitted that like everyone else, he too feels that the transfer saga is getting ‘too long’. When asked about the same, Ronaldo said that it was no surprise that they wanted a player of Mbappe’s caliber.
Madrid always has the best players in the world and it's a philosophy that has been continued for many years.
Even though Ronaldo is unaware of the Frenchman’s plans, he does admit that he speaks perfect Spanish. That being said, the club is not his signature for his excellent command of the language.
Ronaldo then revealed that he’s just like the rest of us, stating “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but this has become a soap opera that’s getting very long“. With the possibility of Real managing a pre-contact with the player, one cannot dismiss him from extending with PSG yet again.
Ronaldo Nazario vs Kylian Mbappe: Who was better at 22?
Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo Nazario’s legacy is nothing short of being on the all-time greats list. The Brazilian striker player for FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, and AC Milan in an illustrious career spanning 18 years. However, many would argue that a significant element of his potential was cut short due to recurring injuries.
Drawing parallels between a 22-year-old R9 and Kylian Mbappe would be an interesting prospect. While both are renowned goal scorers, R9, with his explosive speed, dribbling and trademark ’round-the-keeper’ finish was a force to reckon with. Mbappe on the other hand, announced himself at the global stage during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. His goal in the final made him the youngest to score in a World Cup final since Pelé himself.
Looking at their trophy cabinets, Ronaldo had won an unbelievable 2 World Cups and a Copa America before turning 23. Mbappe on the other hand, has won a league title in every season bar one in his senior career. As for individual awards, R9 pulls away, having two FIFA Player of the Year awards, a World Cup golden ball, and a European golden boot to his name. Mbappe has failed to win any of these in his senior career. However, a move to Real Madrid may change the argument completely.
