Rachel Rapinoe, Megan Rapinoe‘s sister, posted pictures on her social media, flaunting their new tattoos in New Zealand. Fans of the USWNT raged about the team’s gameplay on the pitch at this World Cup. Being reigning champions, expectations were high for the team. While professionals are entitled to process their wins and losses in the ways they feel comfortable, the media constantly finds reasons to cater to their headlines.

The USWNT returned home from the World Cup rather unexpectedly. After scraping victories against minor teams, the reality finally caught up with them against Sweden in the penalties. The veteran Soccer star, Megan Rapinoe, was heavily criticized, as she couldn’t contribute much to the team. Even the former President Donald Trump did not hold back.

Now, the fans and media are all riled up as she adds a new tattoo to her famous collection. A question has been raised if it is indispensable. Rapinoe had previously announced that she would be leaving the team and retiring, but she still believes they are in good hands for the future. The soccer star, who had always been known for her aura and energy to inspire players, announced her retirement from the sport by the end of the season. While it seemed like she would end her career with a bang, it pretty much backfired on her itself. Rapinoe missed the last penalty, which could have secured the sport for her team, making people question her ability to deal with pressure. However, poetic, it indeed wasn’t written to be a masterpiece.

She only featured for 25 minutes in the game and was hardly seen doing anything significant. As reported to Fox Sports by Rapinoe, “This is the balance to the beautiful side of the game. I think it can be cruel and (it was) just not our day.” The player had always been a reliable penalty taker for club and country, but maybe it wasn’t written in the stars for her to score her last ever shot in the national shirt.

She described her last dance as a ‘Sick Joke’, which probably inspired her harsh smile after missing the penalty. Nonetheless, it still doesn’t hinder the fact that her legacy is untouchable and would only be seen as a stepping stone for new female footballers to live up to. As she enters her final days as a footballer, there must be a million emotions engulfing her, so a new tattoo might only be an excellent way to cope with it, given her active personality.
