Megan Rapinoe has taken another cheeky dig at former US President Donald Trump. The star winger has been a longtime critic of the Republican. The two have clashed frequently in the past years. Rapinoe, now, believes that Trump has a secret admiration for her.
“You know he was watching that game, You know he had his McDonald’s lined up. And he was probably like, ‘You know what, I love that.’ I always felt Trump loved me,” said Rapinoe in an interview with TIME magazine. She clashed with Trump in 2019 on LGBTQ rights.
Trump criticized Megan for being silent during the national anthem during a World Cup match and accused her of being disrespectful to her country. Megan and the USWMNT responded by winning the tournament and ignoring an invite to the White House. Megan had fiercely opposed the Trump administration.
“I’m exactly what they’re familiar and comfortable with, just packaged up differently, But I’m exactly the brash, arrogant athlete that Americans love,” the defending world champion added when she was quizzed about her haters. Rapinoe is an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, racial and gender equality. On the field, she is a two-time world cup winner and a trailblazer for many young girls.

Megan Rapinoe claims her retirement will help the USWMNT to focus on the World Cup
According to Megan Rapinoe, the United States will be able to better concentrate on its effort to win a third world championship as a result of her decision to announce her retirement prior to the Women’s World Cup. At the conclusion of the 2023 National Women’s Super League season, the forward, who is 38, will hang up her boots. She has won two world cups for the USWMNT and an Olympic gold medal.
She feels that this summer, curiosity over her playing future would have persisted as a theme for both her and the USWNT. “Obviously I’m 38 years old, I’m not going to be playing forever and it just always feels weird for me to have something settled and feel at peace and to not answer a question honestly,” Rapinoe said.
“I think it allows me to focus a lot more, allows the team to focus a lot more. We don’t have to get questions every time, every single game. It’s just kind of out there and I can just really enjoy it and focus on trying to win the tournament.” Said Rapinoe as she and the team gears up to retain their title at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
