Megan Rapinoe is a star winger for the USA. She is also never shy from expressing herself. Be it about equal pay or LGBTQ rights, the American footballer takes a stand on all relevant issues. She has now hit back at legislators over a ban on trans-athletes from competing in women’s sports.

“We as a country are trying to legislate away people’s full humanity,” said Megan, when she was quizzed about her views on the banning of transgender athletes from women’s sports. She believed that the authorities were aiming to weaponize women’s sports.

World Athletics (WA) has issued new regulations that would prevent certain athletes from participating in female track and field competitions. Athletes who have completed what WA refers to as “male puberty” are no longer permitted to compete in female world rankings tournaments. WA said that the exclusion would apply to “male-to-female transgender athletes who have passed through male puberty.”

Rapinoe criticized the decisions and called the ban unnecessary as no one was unfairly favored. “It’s particularly frustrating when women’s sports are weaponized. Oh, now we care about fairness? Now we care about women’s sports? That’s total bulls**t. And show me all the trans people who are nefariously taking advantage of being trans in sports. It’s just not happening,” were her fierce words. She is against such laws and feels they are unnecessary.

Megan Rapinoe, the American winger, said on Saturday that she plans to retire after this year’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season in 2023. She also said that the forthcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023 will be her last. Rapinoe made the announcement at a press conference in San Jose, California.

Rapinoe has been a member of the United States Women’s National Team since 2006. She and her teammates have won two Olympic gold and two World Cup titles. She has scored 63 times for the USA in her 199 caps for the team. Rapinoe has also created a reputation for herself outside of football. She focuses on exposing the disparities that both women and the LGBTQ population experience in sports.

“I’ve been able to have such an incredible career, and this game has brought me all over the world and allowed me to meet so many amazing people. I feel incredibly grateful to have played as long as I have, to be as successful as we’ve been, and to have been a part of a generation of players who undoubtedly left the game better than they found it. To be able to play one last World Cup and one last NWSL season and go out on my own terms is incredibly special,” said Rapinoe as she confirmed her retirement.
