Mesut Ozil has never been one to shy away from voicing his opinion. The former Real Madrid and Arsenal star has had his fair share of opinions pertaining to socio-political issues. The World Cup winner has commented on several such issues in the past as well. Recently, the 35-year-old took to Instagram to call for humanity to ‘pray for Palestine’ after the recent bombings in Gaza.

The German midfielder’s heartfelt message has been taken up by fans on social media. Ozil posted an Instagram story, making a heartfelt appeal to the public as well.

His post comes at a time when several players are being penalized or suspended by their clubs for the same.

Recently, Anwar El Ghazi and Noussair Mazraoui were sanctioned/suspended by their respective Bundesliga clubs for posting stories and posts in support of Palestine. Even Karim Benzema also got called out by a French Senator, who alleged the footballer has ties with the ‘Muslim Brotherhood’ following his social media post sending prayers “for the inhabitants of Gaza victims” of the ‘unjust’ bombings- he wrote in his post.

Meanwhile, Ozil’s plea for global attention and care for the issue was commended by fans online. The German footballer also spoke out in support of the Uyghur Muslims in the past, while he was at Arsenal.

Bayern Munich decides against penalizing Noussair Mazraoui

Amidst the ongoing issues, several clubs have decided to act against their players for posting or sharing content regarding the same. Subsequently, Mainz decided to suspend their player, Anwar El Ghazi for sharing an “unacceptable” post showcasing his support for Palestine. Similarly, Bayern Munich player, Noussair Mazraoui also took to Instagram with consequences to follow.

He shared a post that was pro-Palestine. However, the club initially decided against the same, and the post was later taken down. Initial impressions were that the club was going to sanction the player. But recent reports suggest that the club has decided against it.

The club also announced on Friday that it will not be suspending the player. This decision comes after many football and club fans showed support for Mazraoui calling out Bayern Munich for blocking the player’s free speech.
