During a pre-match press conference for the Arsenal vs. Chelsea game in the Premier League, Mikel Arteta shared some advice he received from the current Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, after Arteta retired from playing in 2016.

Arteta, with a laugh, mentioned that Pochettino had told him, “Don’t get into coaching, it’s too hard!” Despite this, Arteta and Pochettino, who now stand as rivals, were once teammates at Paris Saint-Germain during the 2001/02 season. Mikel Arteta recalled how Pochettino had taken him under his wing and treated him like a younger brother during their time together.

Mikel also spoke about Pochettino’s influence in helping him turn from a professional player to a manager. “I will be always grateful for what he has done for me,” Arteta ended. Arsenal vs Chelsea will be the first time in their career that the two former teammates will face each other as managers of the club, with Mikel Arteta’s side entering the game as favorites to win.

Arteta, however, expressed the game against Chelsea will be tough and Mauricio Pochettino has all the capabilities as a manager to turn things around at Chelsea who are going through a tough period club. “You can see something has changed very quickly,” Arteta said.

The stage is set for the London rivals to face each other this weekend as Arsenal make the trip to the West London side of Chelsea who will be hoping to make a dent on their rival’s title charge.

Winning 5 out of his 8 games in the Premier League as manager of Arsenal against Chelsea, Arteta has shown great prowess in his ability to gather points from the side from West London. Arsenal has won their last three League games at Stamford Bridge, a fourth could match the record set by Watford back in 1986.

Chelsea fans can take solace in the fact that Pochettino has never lost a home game to Arsenal throughout his career. However, with the current state of both clubs, Arsenal are currently on course to match the record of 1986.
