Miquel Camps – deputy spokesperson for Barcelona’s Board of Directors – has verbally attacked Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. for showboating against Champions League opposition S.C Braga.
Following Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Portuguese club, S.C Braga, Miquel Camps let loose some harsh words online about Madrid’s Brazilian star, Vinicius Jr. The tweet read out:
It’s not racism, he deserves a slap for being a clown and a joker. What do these unnecessary and meaningless bicycles in the centre of the field? The tweet was deleted just minutes later however, the damage was already done. Vinicius Jr.'s teammate, Rodrygo came out in support of his Brazilian compatriot calling Miquel Camps' tweet an embarrassment - in an interview with El Chiringuito.
In the past 12 months, Vinicius Jr. has been subjected to racial abuse in La Liga with notable cases coming against Valencia and Sevilla. Additionally, the player shared a video compilation of racist attacks aimed towards him in a post on ‘X’ with fans of Atletico Madrid, Real Valladolid and Mallorca shouting racial atrocities at the player. Vinicius notably applauded Sevilla when the club took swift action against a racist fan, ejecting him from the stadium and handing him over to the appropriate authorities.
Miquel Camps’ tweet – in the few minutes it was online – has received widespread criticism for its ‘ignorant’ nature with several pointing out Barcelona players such as Ronaldinho and Neymar being similar in the ‘showboating’ nature.
Vinicius Jr.’s Man of the Match performance in the Champions League
After spending a month out of the squad due to a hamstring injury, Vinicius Jr. has announced his return to Real Madrid in spectacular fashion. A ‘MOTM’ performance against S.C Braga in the Champions League capped off an incredible night for the player.
Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelloti was ecstatic at his star player’s return stating:
He’s back to his best. He got the goal, which was ruled out by the narrowest of margins, and he made two assists for Rodrygo and Bellingham. He[Vinicius] made the difference today. Real Madrid's win on the night put them top of Group C in the Champions League.
Real Madrid has already won two Champions League under manager, Carlo Ancelloti with Vinicius Jr. being present for the 2021/22 title. With the signing of British ‘wunderkind‘ Jude Bellingham and Antonio Rudiger, Los Blancos will look for their 15th Champions League title as the club is in an ideal position to qualify out of the group stages.
