Montpellier defender Mamadou Sakho has been suspended following his ugly fight with manager Michel Der Zakarian. At the training session, the 33-year-old defender got into a physical altercation with the head coach after being called out as a ‘crybaby’.

As per L’Equipe, Sakho grabbed the coach’s collar and produced a tackle towards him, causing Der Zakarian to fall to the ground. As of now, the case is being closely investigated by a committee to acquire the exact details of the incident that happened at the training camp.

Montpellier signed Mamadou Sakho in July 2021. On the night the incident happened, fans made graffiti outside the training center, urging the 33-year-old Frenchman to leave the club immediately, along with racial slurs. The club immediately erased the graffiti from the entrance of the training center. Sakho has yet to comment on his situation, while fans and netizens are immensely critical of his actions toward the coach.

The former PSG and Liverpool man has found himself under scrutiny from the fans and the club’s management, signaling his early dismissal. Mamadou Sakho has 8 months left on his contract with the Herault side but is expected to leave the club soon. If found in violation or serious misconduct, Sakho’s venture with Montpellier will come to an end.

Mamadou Sakho’s stint at Montpellier

Mamadou Sakho joined Montpellier HSC in July 2021 on a three-year contract. Initially, expectations were high for the defender as he was able to bring in experience from Premier League giants Liverpool as well as Ligue 1 side PSG.

However, this season, Sakho has appeared in only 32 games since club legend Der Zakarian was reappointed as a coach. Sakho had earlier faced troubles and issues with previous club managers regarding his playtime.
