Lewandowski and Muller
REUNION As Barcelona is placed in the same Champions League group as Bayern Munich, Robert Lewandowski returns there. Thomas Muller also sends a hilarious message to an ex-teammate.
After Bayern Munich’s Champions League matchup with Barcelona, Thomas Muller reprised his brilliant “Robert LewanGOALski” joke. The striker, who goes by the true name Robert Lewandowski, left Bayern this summer after eight years of service in search of a new challenge at the Camp Nou.
Additionally, he will return to Bavaria when Bayern and Barcelona are paired in Group C. They are joined in the group by Viktoria Plzen and Inter Milan. The draw will bring back memories of Bayern’s 8-2 thrashing of Barcelona in the 2019–20 competition quarterfinals.
Lewandowski scored one of the eight goals scored by Bayern that night as Bayern won the European championship. Later, Muller gained notoriety for his David Brent-like joke in which he praised his former Bayern teammate and sarcastically referred to him as Robert LewanGOALski. And Muller sent his former teammate a note following the announcement of the competition’s draw in which he rehashed the original joke.
“What a nice draw for all football fans! Mr LewanGOALski, see you soon in Munich! “Let’s rock the Champions League season,” Muller said on Instagram.
Lewandowski’s two goals in Bayern’s 3-0 victory over Barca at the Camp Nou helped the Bundesliga team finish third in their group last season. However, given that Lewandowski is now a member of the LaLiga team, things may go differently. Although the fixture dates have not yet been determined, it is unknown when Barcelona and Bayern will face off. The group stage will begin on Tuesday, September 6.

“I feel very honoured, very proud and happy. I want to thank my team-mates. We all work hard to win trophies. This is a title for everyone around me.” Those were the words stated by Robert Lewandowski upon winning the Best FIFA Men’s Player award for 2021 – a second successive title for the 34-year-old. In this occasion, a special thank you was undoubtedly extended to Thomas Müller, a teammate who has been tirelessly supporting the Polish star for years. Lewandowski and Müller’s chemistry on the field is similar to how a superb wine becomes better with age.
Lewandowski already had 74 goals in 131 Bundesliga games for Borussia Dortmund before he joined Bayern on a free transfer in the summer of 2014. On his 137th competitive appearance for the club, the Pole scored his 100th goal for Bayern just three years into his dance with the red ballet. Early in 2019, he successfully checked off becoming the first player to score 100 goals at the Allianz Arena before passing former Bayern colleague Claudio Pizarro to become the league’s all-time leading foreign-born scorer. On his 277th Bundesliga match, against Wolfsburg, he scored his 196th Bundesliga goal, moving him into the top five scorers in Bundesliga history.
