“My lawyers will be in touch”- Former Manchester United star Gary Neville jokingly threatens Jamie Carragher over his ‘clown’ profile picture

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, two former Premier League rivals and current Sky Sports pundits, are accustomed to sparring on our televisions and online, but now the former Manchester United player has joked about involving his lawyers.

Despite their “hate” for one another throughout their playing careers, Carragher and Neville have since forged an unexpected relationship. However, given the continued animosity between Manchester and Liverpool, a significant portion of their relationship comprise winding the other up.

Even Carragher’s Twitter bio states that he is “now annoying Gary Neville on Sky Sports,” and he has irritated him by using a clown-costumed image of Neville as his profile photo. Finally, Neville was affected, and Carragher was playfully threatened with legal action.

Although Carragher replaced the image with one that is perhaps even more embarrassing, he did not allow Neville to get away with it. A previous image of Gary and his brother Phil holding lollipops was put in place of the clown image that Carragher had previously updated.

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have enjoyed a cult friendship after ending their playing careers with arch-nemesis Manchester United and Liverpool

Gary Neville joked to Jamie Carragher on Twitter: “Just as a matter of interest can you remove the clown pic of me now or my lawyers will be in touch.” Neville got what he wanted, but not without additional repercussions. However, as he eases off Neville for the time being, Carragher has finally changed his profile image back to one of himself.

When they were both cult figures at their respective clubs, it was impossible to say that they were good friends. Today, however, they are. After the United captain kissed the badge away at Anfield during a tight match, Carragher even said he “hated” Neville.

“I hated him a little bit. Can you hate someone a little bit? You just hate them, I suppose!” he told Sky’s Super 6 Podcast. “There was a big rivalry between the clubs but he’s kissed his badge and said things about people from Liverpool. He was just basically playing up to the fanzines and trying to get in with the Manchester United fans. He is a right-back, nobody is really interested in right-backs. That was his way of trying to be popular with Man Utd fans and getting a song.”
