Mykhailo Mudryk has finally scored for Chelsea after almost 24 appearances for the club since his transfer. It was clear to see how much his goal meant not only to him but also to his teammates as Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo both were jubilant at the moment.
Chelsea faced Fulham at Craven Cottage on Monday and were looking to set their season straight after a poor start which saw them score zero goals in September. Armando Broja‘s early miss in the opening minutes of the game gave the impression that it could have been another long night for Chelsea. But up stepped Mykhailo Mudryk. The player had gone through weeks and weeks of criticism for his lack of goals and assists but he finally got his first against Fulham.
Scoring his first goal for Chelsea was a major moment for Mykhailo Mudryk. He arrived in a high-profile £88.5m transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk, with a lot of hype around his talent. His impressive debut against Liverpool showcased his skills. However, he couldn’t maintain that level of performance. Former Chelsea player Craig Burley even called him the worst signing, saying, “Mudryk, it’s got to be.”
Now, as he scores his first goal for the club, the Ukrainian aims to continue his good form, especially since Chelsea is currently in the lower half of the table. Post the international break, the Blues will face their fierce rivals Arsenal as they welcome them to Stamford Bridge on the 21st of October.
Mykhailo Mudryk requires patience
Mykhailo Mudryk is the definition of ‘raw talent’. The player on several occasions has shown glimpses of the potential he holds, however, has been unable to fully capitalize on it. Fortunately, the player is still only 22 years old and is coached by Mauricio Pochettino, who is known to excel in improving young players.
“You’ve got a real diamond but you should be very, very patient,” said Shakthar President, Serhiy Palkin who told the Chelsea owners that Mudryk was, “A unique boy with unbelievable technical characteristics.” The President also showed his faith in Chelsea being the best place for the youngster to grow stating, “He’s part of an ambitious project. He’s in good hands.”
Mykhailo Mudryk till now has not lit up the Premier League. The player is in a difficult position as media outlets have been piling on the pressure on him to perform. However, a long-term project is visible for him at the club and the next few seasons will dictate whether their patience with Mudryk will come to fruition.
