The United States president Joe Biden sending a message to the USMNT during the FIFA World Cup
In an exciting fixture between the United States of America and the Netherlands in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Dutch side cruised past the USMNT in a 3-1 win over the North Americans. Goals from Memphis Depay, Blind, and Dumfries sent the Netherlands to the next round as they bury the hopes of the USMNT players in the round of 16.
In the middle of an enthralling match between the two countries, their presidents also went on a social media war after the match. The Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte tweeted “Sorry Joe, football won”, after Joe Biden‘s “It’s called soccer” campaign. The Dutch PM came on top after their side’s victory over Joe Biden’s players.
The round-of-16 match was a crucial game for both countries as it ensured a place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup. The Netherlands will be playing Argentina in the next round of the FIFA World Cup. The two teams faced each other in the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup held in Brazil.
