Netherland’s set to auction their 2022 FIFA World Cup jerseys to ’empower migrant workers in Qatar’
The Netherlands to sell their jerseys of the 2022 FIFA World Cup
The Netherlands’ 2022 FIFA World Cup shirts will be auctioned off to benefit migrant laborers in Qatar, according to the Dutch football association Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbalbond (KNVB). Following a discussion with the players, the KNVB has concluded that the profits of the digital sale will be utilized to enhance the conditions of migrant workers, as stated on the KNVB’s official site.
The KNVB is one of the handful of football organizations to express concern about human rights and working pressures in Qatar. The migrant workers and foreigners bring up a large percentage of the 2.8 million citizenries in Qatar.
“It has not escaped anyone’s notice that facilitating the tournament has had a huge impact on migrant workers in Qatar,” Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk said via KNVB’s website.
The Netherlands team will also spend time in Qatar meeting with a group of around 20 migrants to discuss their labor environment. The Netherlands squad will also offer them the chance to participate in squad training.
