NEVER BEFORE: When Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski went all ‘Super Saiyan’ mode and scored 5 goals in 9 minutes

Robert Lewandowski famously scored five goals in just nine minutes for Bayern Munich against Wolfsburg almost seven years ago today.

The Poland international achieved the astonishing feat on September 22 2015, in a match that ultimately finished 5-1 to Bayern. A half-time substitute, Lewandowski’s heroics ensured Bayern came from behind to thrash Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern were trailing Wolfsburg by a goal to nil when, at half-time, Guardiola decided to introduce Lewandowski from off the bench. Six minutes after his arrival, the Polish striker tucked home from close range to level the scores. It was the start of a crazy run in which Lewandowski scored five times in eight minutes and 59 seconds.

His first three goals came in the span of four minutes, making it the fastest hat-trick in Bundesliga history. But after making it 3-1 with a hard-fought effort, Lewandowski showed he wasn’t done by lashing home his fourth goal in the 57th minute.

But the former Borussia Dortmund man saved his best for last in the 60th minute, a sensational acrobatic volley that flew past Benaglio and left Guardiola speechless on the sidelines.

Guardiola, meanwhile, who had been visibly baffled on the touchline, was left in disbelief, saying, “I’ve never experienced such a situation, either as a coach or as a player. Five goals in nine minutes. I am very happy for Robert. You play poorly for 45 minutes and then grab five goals in nine minutes. I cannot explain it.”

Immediately following the match, Lewandowski admitted it was an ‘incredible’ feeling to score five goals in just nine second-half minutes and did not realize at the time how quickly his goals had come. “I am very satisfied, that was incredible,” he said. “I just wanted to shoot, I didn’t really think what will happen afterwards.

Robert Lewandowski and Bayern Munich were once a tale made for each other. However, over the last few months, the relationship between the player and the club has deteriorated to a point where Robert Lewandowski has on multiple occasions publically admitted that wishes to leave the German giants.

Robert Lewandowski wants a move to Barcelona who is also willing to sign the 33-year-old with open arms. They have a 3-year proposal ready but come to terms with Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga winners have tried everything to keep Lewandowski at the Allianz but it seems they will have to let the Polish striker go without deteriorating his legacy by expending the ongoing saga.
