The current Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou came up with a cheeky reply when he was reminded of Spurs’ trophy drought by a reporter during his first press conference as the club’s manager on Monday. Notably, the Australian manager has joined the North London club after a pretty successful stint at Celtic.

In a recent interview, Postecoglou confronted a question where he was asked about his thoughts on Tottenham not winning a single trophy in almost 16 years. The manager replied, “You’ve painted a pretty bleak picture. I was excited about this role. But to be fair, that’s why I’m here. That’s what I love about it, all those things that are not here. And that’s what I want to bring. I want to bring success, bring European football. I want this club to be where it deserves to be.”

Postecoglou then concluded after stating, “I love that. That’s what I’ve done my whole career. Every club I’ve taken over, it’s been after a disappointing season. For me, that’s the thing that I’ve cherished most. Most of my career is to do things that will last, make a difference, to create something that hopefully stays beyond my tenure because I won’t be here forever. So that kind of scenario you paint, where we are at the moment, is what attracted me most about this role.”

Back in the 2007/08 season Spurs won their major trophy in the form of the League Cup. After that, the club failed to win any silverware across all competitions.

Intriguingly, Tottenham last won their major trophy in the form of the League Cup back in the 2007/08 season. After that, the club failed to win any silverware across all competitions. The club has reportedly signed a few new faces to bolster their side. Tottenham has signed James Maddison from Leicester City.

They have signed proven stars like Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski on a permanent deal who were earlier on loan from Sporting CP and Juventus respectively. The club would like the Australian manager to carry them to the European glory which they have missed for more than one and a half decade.

Tottenham Hotspurs have signed Leicester City midfielder James Maddison this summer. The club was targeting the midfielder ever since January although back then Leicester was reluctant to sell the player. But following their relegation, Leicester decided to cash in on the English star.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Spurs signed Maddison for £40 million. Although other top clubs like Newcastle United were in the race to sign the midfielder, Spurs were the front runners.

In the previous season, Maddison scored 10 goals and made 9 assists in 32 matches for Leicester. He was also named the player of the season for Leicester City even though the Foxes were relegated from the Premier League last season.
