Neymar has come out publicly against PSG sharing the same sentiments with former teammate Lionel Messi. The Brazilian joined PSG from Barcelona for a record fee of €222m which is still the highest transfer fee any club has paid for a player.
In an interview with Brazilian-based news outlet, GloboNews, Neymar talked about his time at PSG. Earlier, Messi had also come out and said that he was ‘unhappy’ at the club. Neymar shared similar sentiments and went a step further describing it as ‘hell’. “We lived through hell, both he and I,” stated Neymar. He further spoke on how he felt Messi was treated unfairly, “Messi left in a way that, for football, he didn’t deserve. For everything he is.” Messi arrived at PSG on a free transfer. Fans were hoping that his arrival would mean European success. But they were eliminated in the Round of 16 in both of the seasons that Argentine was there.
Neymar referred to PSG as ‘Hell’ after referring to Messi’s World Cup as ‘Heaven’. Neymar and Messi were booed by their own fans at the French capital. Along with Kylian Mbappe, they were meant to be the leaders to bring PSG their first European silverware. But they failed, lading the Argentine and the Brazilian to leave. With only Mbappe left, fans cannot be too assured that the Frenchman stays as he has openly flirted with the idea of joining European giants, Real Madrid.
Neymar has left PSG for Al-Hilal for a reported fee of €90m. After 173 appearances for the club with 118 goals and 77 assists, Neymar finally leaves his proclaimed ‘hell’.

PSG and Neymar’s great expectations remain unmet
By the time Neymar joined PSG in 2017, the French club had already established itself as the best club in France. However, the prestigious UEFA Champions League Trophy had always eluded the club. Only reaching the Quarter-finals since the Qataris took over, the signing of Neymar was expected to bring them one step closer. The Brazilian on the other hand had ambitions of his own as he hoped to escape the shadow of Messi and win the Ballon d’Or.
PSG managed to reach the finals only once since Neymar’s arrival and to give them their props, they really should have won the game if it weren’t for Manuel Neuer. PSG would reach the semi-finals the following year after which they never managed to reach those heights again. Further, Neymar personally never placed higher than 3rd in the Ballon d’Or rankings that too in the colors of the Blaugrana.
Neymar has also been unfortunate with injuries missing over 100 games for PSG as of February of 2023. In truth, the PSG-Neymar marriage has failed by all means. They were 90 minutes away from winning the Champions League, but it was not to be.
