Manchester United was one of the favourites to win the Premier League title last season after finishing second in the 2020-21 outing. However, even after the arrival of superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafael Varane, what was supposed to be a dream season turned into a disaster.

The season showcased how far Manchester United are from their rivals Liverpool and Manchester City and even after the appointment of new manager, Erik ten Hag, former Manchester United captain, Roy Keane believes the club is ready to compete for silverware yet.

Roy Keane names 3 players holding Manchester United back from success

Speaking to  Sky Bet, Roy Keane said, “The manager no doubt will be given money to spend, how he recruits, four or five experienced players have left the club, which I think is a good thing.”

“But I still don’t see United competing with Liverpool and Manchester City, not just yet. I think they will be a bit better. They have quality and the recruitment, but you can’t look beyond Liverpool and Man City.”

Speaking about their rivals and signings, Roya Keane continued, “Brilliant players, they’ve obviously improved with an unbelievable striker [Haaland] and they’ve got one of the greatest managers ever in Pep [Guardiola].”

The Irishman later also spoke about how United’s deadwood had been holding the club back. He even said that he’s unsure about the options United have at the right-back position and centre of the park, pointing out the likes of Fred, Scott Mctominay and Aaron wan Bissaka.
