“Nothing has changed,” Lionel Messi deemed the greatest footballer of all time by Wayne Rooney yet again
Wayne Rooney and Lionel Messi
In a recent tweet, Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney, reiterated his view and hailed Lionel Messi as Football’s GOAT. The former England player used his earlier tweet to laud Argentina’s skipper and claimed that his tweet, which he posted a decade ago, still holds the same ground even today. After Messi’s masterclass, the Albiceleste have advanced to the finals, where they will face either Morocco or the defending champs France at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday.
Messi was instrumental in Argentina’s win, netting a penalty in the 34th minute to give his team the lead before providing a great pass for Julian Alvarez’s second and Argentina’s third goal. Rooney, a long-time admirer of the Argentine, once again publicly expressed his deep respect for the PSG star by retweeting his prior adoration of the ex-Barcelona player.
He wrote: “Nothing has changed. ” In a post from eight years ago, he remarked “Messi is a joke. For me the best ever.” In 2012, Wayne Rooney was astonished by Lionel Messi’s five-goal performance against Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League. Even after 11 years, Messi continues to be a force to be reckoned with and Rooney is still in awe of his talent.
Messi put Argentina in front against Croatia by confidently scoring a penalty kick, although some argued the penalty shouldn’t have been given. He then helped set up the second goal by sending Alvarez down the field from close to the midpoint line. Messi then ran down the left side of the field and set up the Manchester City player for the third goal.
Lionel Messi brings tears of joy to coach Scaloni’s eyes after a spectacular 3-0 victory against Croatia
After the game had ended, Argentina was officially in the final with their 3-0 victory over Croatia. Lionel Scaloni was seen crying tears of joy as he embraced Messi in a comforting hug. Messi did not try to console the coach but instead allowed him to experience tears of joy.
Last night was an emotional one for Argentinian football fans everywhere. Lionel Messi, their century’s most beloved figure, put on a masterful performance, almost as if it was magic, to give himself and his country a chance for the greatest farewell of all – the sixth FIFA World Cup final for Argentina.
Lionel Scaloni, the coach of Argentina and someone who has always helped Messi, helped him again in devising his strategies to break through defenders. He has had more than just a chance to make his mark on the history of Argentinian football- it was obvious in the way he reacted to each of Messi’s moves on Tuesday night.
When Messi scored the penalty kick to put Argentina in the lead, Scaloni was not celebrating wildly or looking for someone to hug. Instead, he was seated in his chair, tears in his eyes, taking sips from one bottle of water, then another. He was evidently relieved that Messi had done something special.
