Novak Djokovic helps Serbian National team reach Qatar for 2022 FIFA World Cup
Plane titled Novak Djokovic flies Serbia national football team
The Serbian national football team was flown to Bahrain by the Air Serbia aircraft labeled after 21-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. The World No. 8 is presently engrossed in intense competition at the ATP Finals in Turin, but his aspiring Serb footballers are stepping up their 2022 FIFA World Cup measures.
The Serbs are competing against Bahrain in a friendly on November 18 at the National Stadium in Riffa. They are paired with Brazil, Cameroon, and Switzerland in Group G of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Football Association of Serbia’s Airbus A319 aircraft was labeled after Novak Djokovic. In 2013, the then-new national airline Air Serbia debuted the ‘Serbian Living Legends program, naming its aircraft after the nation’s most iconic identities.
In addition to the 35-year-old, Novak Djokovic, erstwhile NBA player Vlade Divac, soccer player Dejan Stankovic, actor Miki Manojlovic, and musician Goran Bregovic had their titles inscribed on the national carrier’s aircraft. The five-time ATP Finals title holder, a football fan, enthusiastically hailed Serbia’s qualification to the 2022 World Cup after their shocking 2-1 triumph over Portugal in the qualifiers last November.
