Former footballer and Borussia Dortmund academy product Nuri Sahin is no stranger to the managerial scene. However, the 35-year-old is currently the manager of Turkish side Antalyaspor and has been so for the last 3 years, joining them in 2021. As per recent reports, the former Dortmund product is set for a return to the Westfalenstadion, but this time, in the dugout.
Sahin began his career at Dortmund and spent 6 years at the club before a move took him away to Real Madrid. He then spent his years at Liverpool, before moving to Werder Bremen and Antalyaspor. As for his managerial career, the former Dortmund man took charge of Antalyaspor who were enduring a terrible start to their season in 2021. He led them to the 7th spot after going their last 14 games unbeaten.
In the 2022/23 season, Antalyaspor finished 13th, while the club are currently sitting in eighth position in the Turkish Süper Lig. It is rumoured that Sahin will make a return to Dortmund as an assistant coach under Edin Terzic.
However, Nuri Sahin has also been tasked with replacing the current manager by the start of the 2024/25 season. While his coaching abilities are certainly legitimate, his ability to replace Edin Terzic remains to be seen.
Borussia Dortmund zeroing in on Manchester United youngster
With the January transfer window well in sight, clubs are well underway to bring in as well as offload players from the squad list. Borussia Dortmund, who are currently 5th in the Bundesliga, have shown great interest in a particular Manchester United star and are set to initiate negotiations come January. Dan Gore, the 19-year-old midfielder falls into the bracket of promising talents that normally catch the eye of a club like Dortmund.
As has been the case earlier, Gore will join Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham as youngsters who were snatched away from English clubs. As far as Gore’s reputation goes, he has shone brilliantly in the United Academy after making the move from Burnley. He was also voted as the 2022/23 Reserve Team Player of the Year at United. He recently made his first-team debut for the club on boxing day after coming on as a late substitute for Christian Eriksen.
Dortmund are so interested in the youngster that if talks do not progress in January, the club are ready to come in with a big offer in the summer. The club are also keeping tabs on the potential departures of Giovanni Reyna and Nico Schlotterbeck. While the latter is pursued by Arsenal, a move in January may not be feasible due to the high asking price of Borussia Dortmund. Reyna on the other hand has been struggling with form and game time, and a move away would suit both parties.
