On this day: Cristiano Ronaldo pranked by teammate Ricardo Quaresma during Nike mercurial launch event
Cristiano Ronaldo’s performances on the field usually make defenders look foolish, but it was his turn to look silly on the set of Nike’s new boot launch.
Ricardo Quaresma, Ronaldo’s friend and prankster, posted on Instagram his intention to exact “payback” on the European Championship winner before even performing the prank.
The three-time Ballon D’Or winner screamed when he was startled by Portuguese teammate Quaresma leaping up from beneath a table at the launch, but he saw the funny side and shared the video on Instagram.
Ronaldo took it in good grace but hinted at getting his own back on his once trusted ally. ‘Crazy day launching my new CR7 Chapter 3 #Mercurial. Still laughing. You totally killed me, boys. Respect. This isn’t the end.’ said Ronaldo.
The then Real Madrid player was certainly shocked by the ruse played upon him but managed to make a somewhat surprising statement of his own when he signed his new contract with the Spanish giants at the Bernabeu the very next day. He went on to leave the Los Blancos to join Juventus in 2018 and last summer joined Manchester United to complete a dream homecoming to hasn’t gone as per plan.
Cristiano Ronaldo might part ways with Manchester United ahead of next season
Despite being nominated in the PFA Team of the Season, Ronaldo had a miserable season at United, as they failed to qualify for the Champions League. His dissatisfaction with the club’s pile of difficulties has reached a point where he is ready to depart. Ronaldo does not believe he is a part of new manager Erik ten Hag’s plans for the Red Devils, according to La Repubblica.
His agent, Jorge Mendes, has already started looking for a new club for his client and is scanning for possibilities. Despite finishing as United’s top scorer last season, his readiness to play under Ten Hag’s style has long been questioned. Ronaldo does not appear to be waiting to find out, as he searches for a new club for the second summer in a row.
