“One of the greats”- Virgil van Dijk lauds Arsenal legend Thierry Henry after meeting him during the Nations League

Virgil van Dijk
Netherlands captain, Virgil van Dijk got a chance to swap jerseys with Arsenal and Barcelona legend Thierry Henry last night. Henry has been the Belgium national team’s assistant coach since May 2021. He coached the team from 2016 to 2018 as well in their run to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2018. Van Dijk took to Twitter to share a photo of the two. He captioned it, “One of the greats!”
However, last night ended in a serious defeat for Henry’s side as they lost 4-1 to the Dutch National team. The Netherlands ran riot in the second half putting three past Simon Mignolet in the space of 14 minutes.
Tottenham’s Steven Bergwijn opened the scoring in the 40th minute before Memphis Depay doubled the lead for the visitors. Dumfries and Depay then scored again before Mitchy Batshuyi got a consolation goal in the injury time of the second half.

Virgil van Dijk lashed out at the Nations League earlier for their fixture scheduling

The Dutch captain, while playing the Nations League had earlier called out the league organisers for scheduling 4 fixtures right after the club season ended. Van Dijk is one of the players who played every possible game that he could have played this season as Liverpool reached the finals of 3 cup competitions including the Champions League.
Liverpool lost the Quadruple this season by 1 goal and 1 point. They finished one point behind Manchester City in the Premier League, for a second time under Klopp, and lost the Champions League final 1-0 to Real Madrid. Liverpool did defeat Chelsea twice to win the League Cup and the FA Cup, both on penalties.
30-year-old Virgil van Dijk himself had a long season as he played 51 games for Liverpool this season. He had the 3rd most appearances for his club after Diogo Jota and Jordan Henderson this year. However, while Liverpool’s season was, by all means, a success, the club are still on the hunt for the treble as they look to next season.
