WATCH: Osasuna fans chant ‘Greenwood d*e’ during Mason Greenwood’s debut for Getafe

Osasuna fans welcomed Mason Greenwood to La Liga by chanting “Greenwood d*e” as they faced Getafe earlier today. The score ended in three goals to two in favor of Getafe. Greenwood’s debut was much awaited for all positive and negative reasons as well.
Getafe fans were excited to see their new summer signing Mason Greenwood play for their club. Others, such as Osasuna fans, had a more ‘negative’ reaction to the player kicking a ball again. Greenwood had not played a game of professional football since January 2022. The player was charged with cases of r*pe, physical abuse, threat, etc. However, the case was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service after key witnesses withdrew their statements.
The player has since then been loaned out to the Madrid-based side of Getafe. The fans were excited as they turned up in numbers to watch the player train in an open session at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. Greenwood finally made his much-awaited debut against Osasuna coming on in the 77th minute of the game.
In his short appearance, the player looked sharp and did not play like someone who has been out for almost 2 years. Osasuna fans greeted the player with chants of explicit nature as the player took to the field. Mason Greenwood, however, would have the last laugh as he played a vital role in the third goal, winning a corner for Getafe resulting in a goal.
Getafe face Real Sociedad next on the 24th of September. Fans of Getafe will be curious to see if their new summer signing will start the game or be brought on as a sub.
Mason Greenwood makes his debut for Getafe
Getafe fans were curious to see how the Manchester United loanee would fare in La Liga after an extended period away from the game. Eager to watch him play, fans had to wait till the 77th minute to finally see the 21-year-old in action, and in short, Mason Greenwood had a solid cameo.
Greenwood has not lost his touch and looked comfortable on the ball. The player was seen mainly near the right wing. His main aim seemed to be crossing the ball inside the box for other players to finish. Mason however did play a crucial role in Getafe’s winner.
When he came on the score was 2-2. Greenwood made a darting run outside of the box on the wing and crossed the ball which went out for a corner. The corner was then converted into a goal giving Jose Bordalas a much-needed win.
Mason Greenwood will still anger a majority of people due to his past crimes. However, it must be accepted that the young Englishman is once again a professional football player and fans will be cheering his name if he does well.
