In early 2022, Mason Greenwood found himself in hot water as his partner, Harriet Robson, released pictures of her injured and bleeding. She further released audio which showed that he had physically and sexually assaulted her. Greenwood was suspended from Manchester United and a police investigation against him began. After the case against him was dropped, he finally returned to football.
United announced that they had decided to part ways with the forward, loaning him to Getafe in the La Liga. While he made his debut against Osasuna, he was welcomed by traveling fans chanting “Greenwood, die”. The club was fined by La Liga fans for the chanting, but it didn’t stop them.
On January 21st, Osasuna hosted Getafe, and Greenwood was yet again subjected to the fans chanting “Greenwood, die”. The referee in the match had to pause the game and spoke with the managers of both sides regarding the chanting. It didn’t stop as he was booed every time he touched the ball as well.
Before the match on the 21st, Indar Gorri put up a statement condemning Greenwood and Javier Tebas. The Osasuna ultras voiced their anger and said “r*pist” was allowed to play in the El Sadar stadium and condemned the league for being more interested in the money.
THE AGGRESSOR MASON GREENWOOD IN OUR SADAR. The League allows a detainee accused of attempted r*pe, assault resulting in actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behavior to compete in its competition. Once again, economic interests take precedence over the fight for a society without any type of oppression. A RAP*ST WILL PLAY ON SUNDAY IN OUR HOUSE.Indar Gorri on Mason Greenwood
Greenwood’s return to football had polarizing reactions. Many opposed his return to football, claiming the striker didn’t deserve the chance. Meanwhile, some did defend him, claiming he had committed a mistake and everyone deserves second chances.
Mason Greenwood is close to a “dream move”
With Manchester United confirming that Mason Greenwood won’t be having a future at the club, they have actively been searching for clubs to sell him to. With many clubs impressed with his performances at Getafe, four clubs have kept him their shortlist.
While Getafe are trying their best to sign the 22-year-old, Barcelona are in pole position to sign the forward. According to The Sun, Greenwood looks at the move to Barcelona as a “dream move” and his representatives are trying their best to get it done.
Despite Erik Ten Hag wanting to keep the forward at United, he has accepted the club’s decision to part ways. Greenwood aims to return to the England national team as well, for which he had only one appearance.
