Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been handed a four-year playing suspension on doping violation, by the Italian Anti-Doping Tribunal. The midfielder tested positive for a prohibited substance in August 2023 following a Serie A match.

The French star was initially suspended in September last year, after he failed to clear an anti-doping test following Juventus‘ 3-0 win over Udinese. The test revealed significantly high levels of synthetic testosterone. Subsequently, another sample from his body was analyzed at a clinic in Rome, confirming the initial failed test results. The second examination also identified the presence of another hormone called ‘DHEA’.

Following the two failed tests, the player remained under suspension while his case was under review. In a recent development, the 2018 WC winner has now been handed a four-year ban by the Anti-Doping Tribunal. However, he has the option to challenge the decision by appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The 30-year old had claimed that the positive result was due to accidental consumption, and will be hoping to prove his innocence.

Furthermore, the four-year ban will come as a major setback for the player, who has failed to feature in as many matches for Juventus. He returned to the Serie A in 2022, but has only made 12 appearances due to injury problems.
