According to sources in France, Mathias Pogba has been detained by police as part of an investigation into an alleged blackmail scheme against his brother, Paul Pogba.

According to the sources, Mathias Pogba turned himself in on Wednesday after being accused of participating in a gang’s alleged attempt at violent extortion against his brother, Paul Pogba. As per report, three further people were detained in Paris. Paul and Mathias Pogba’s attorneys have been contacted by Le Monde, but they have not yet responded.

Based to a story from France Info published last month, 29-year-old Paul Pogba admitted to police that he was the victim of a €13 million extortion scheme by a gang that included his older brother.

It happened when Mathias, 32, made a video in which he vowed to reveal “explosive” details about his younger brother, who had transferred from Manchester United to Juventus.

“The whole world, as well as my brother’s fans, and even more so the French team and Juventus, my brother’s team-mates and his sponsors deserve to know certain things,” said Mathias Pogba.

An official statement from Paul Pogba’s team that claimed the midfielder was the target of a blackmail plan was released shortly after the video. Pogba is believed to have told the investigators that acquaintances he has known since he was a child, including his brother, had threatened him and tried to extort money from him.

He mentioned an alleged incident in which two hooded guys with assault rifles threatened him and demanded €13 million from the France international in a Paris residence. Investigators learned that Pogba had been threatened multiple times since then, with the alleged perpetrators allegedly showing up at Juventus’ practise facility in July.

According to reports, the group claimed to have safeguarded Pogba for 13 years and sought €13 million in exchange for their “services.” As reported by Get French Football News, Pogba initially gave the gang €100,000 in an effort to “buy time” and “satisfy” their demands. This is according to French publication RMC. However, he made the decision to alert the authorities about the alleged conspiracy after Juventus’ attorneys approached him in the wake of the incident at the team’s training facility in July.
