Manchester City released captain Ilkay Gundogan following their trophy-studded season. The German leaves the club after a seven-year-long stint, winning everything in club football.
Man City decided to part ways with the Gundogan ahead of the next season. His contract was going to be over at the end of this June. Although talks were reportedly taking place between both parties, no concrete agreement over the player’s stay at the club was reached.
Gundogan came to Manchester City in 2016 for €27 Million from Borussia Dortmund. During his time at Man City, Gundogan has won five Premier Leagues, Four Carabao Cups, two FA cups, and a UEFA Champions League.
Many Elite clubs in Europe were keeping tabs on the German playmaker’s situation at the English clubs. FC Barcelona and Arsenal were the front runners in the list of teams who were running for his signature. Barca coach Xavi is said to be fond of the style of play Gundogan offers. And after the departure of their veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets, Gundogan is thought to be their primary choice to replace him at the club.
Arsenal is also thought to be interested to sign the midfielder this summer. Mikel Arteta is said to be interested to bring the German midfielder to bolster their midfield for the upcoming season. Gundogan will offer a prime mixture of quality, control and ruggedness in the center of the park.
With him being a free agent now, teams will try their best to convince the player to join their club as soon as possible. It is to be seen where Gundogan chooses to play next season after a historic stint at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City release Benjamin Mendy as he waits for the r*pe and sexual assault re-trials
Manchester City released the French left-back, Benjamin Mendy. He is waiting to face the sexual assault re-trials. Although he has been cleared of the other seven charges that were against him.
Mendy is set to leave the club after a six-year-long stint in Man City. He joined the club from Monaco for a fee of around £ 52 million. Overall he made 75 appearances for the club.
In November 2020, Mendy was arrested after a woman claimed that he raped her back in his house the previous month. Although he was released under investigation, another woman accused him of sexually assaulting her two months later. This resulted in him being arrested again. And once he was out on bail from that, three other women accused him of r*pe. In the end, though, he was cleared of all those charges.
Man City suspended Mendy in August 2021, after he was charged with sexual assault. He is set to face the re-trial on one count of r*pe and another attempted rape on June 26, 2023.
