Kepler Laveran de Lima Ferreira, who goes by the name of Pepe, went down memory lane in Cristiano’s Documentary series. In episode 3 of Cristiano’s Documentary with the National team, titled“Cristiano, he will be the captain!” Ronaldo’s ex-teammate Pepe remembers the enormity of his popularity. Pepe remembers an incident where the Real Madrid squad was in the US for preseason and with them, was Brazilian star Kaká.
While on tour, Pepe remembers how the people in Los Angeles were buzzed at their arrival and were shouting Ronaldo’s name even though nobody knew that the Portuguese superstar would be there. One should also realize that Kakà was the then Ballond d’Or winner as well. Ronaldo was very popular in the US, and rightly so. Pepe also gives an account of how relieved the entire Portugal team was when he scored against the Netherlands in Euro 2010. The relief and jubilation of that moment was truly special, according to Pepe.
Pepe recounts, “Cristiano was always a leader, always. When I moved to Real Madrid, I was still young and had no experience in the national team. Cristiano’s presence was very important because he embraced me and helped me a lot in the first days here in the national team.” Widely regarded as one of the best defenders of his generation, Pepe currently plays for Porto. He became the oldest player to score in the World Cup knockout stages in 2018.
