Peter Crouch reveals that former Liverpool players laughed at him after he fancied a hotel receptionist. Unbeknownst to the Liverpool forward the receptionist was the wife of teammate Xabi Alonso.

Peter Crouch signed from Southampton to join Liverpool in the summer of 2005/06. The forward scored 12 goals for the relegated side that season which saw him fit for a move elsewhere. Crouch joined the likes of Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard, and Xabi Alonso. In his initial days at the club, the player stayed at Hope Street Hotel. It was there that he saw Nagore Aranburu – who was the receptionist – for the first time.

“On reception was a girl so good-looking I couldn’t quite believe she was smiling at me all the time,” Peter Crouch spoke. Jamie Carragher caught wind of what he said and asked Crouchie to repeat it in front of his new teammates.

“Dark-haired. Spanish-looking. I’m in there,” he said. It was at the moment his teammates gave him the bad, but funny news, “It’s at that moment that they told me the receptionist was Xabi Alonso’s wife, my new teammate…” he revealed. Xabi Alonso and his wife were nice about the incident and what Crouch said. But Carragher was having a laugh.

An incident that could have easily ended up creating tension is now a light-hearted story that Peter Crouch is willing to share. Since then the ex-England international has gone on to marry English model, Abbey Clancy in 2011. Xabi Alonso also tied the knot with his partner, Nagore Aranburu in 2009. Peter Crouch now hosts a podcast called ‘That Peter Crouch Podcast’ where he shares tales of a similar nature while bringing on guests who do the same.

The Iconic Peter Crouch Celebration

Anyone who knows Peter Crouch knows about ‘The Robot’. The celebration has become so famous that the player even performed it for Prince William. Not many, however, knew the origin of the iconic dance. At David Beckham‘s house party in 2006 before the World Cup, the player revealed he did ‘the robot’ for the first time making his way to the toilet.

Upon finding out that the dance was recorded, the player revealed that he was terrified. His England teammates, however, told him to the dance next time he celebrates. Since then the celebration has etched its name in Premier League history.

Peter Crouch never forgot what his teammates said doing the robot against Jamaica as England prepared for the World Cup. While Peter Crouch will most likely be remembered for his iconic celebration, fans should also remember the player for being an incredibly consistent striker for England. The player scored 22 goals in 42 appearances for his nation.

From doing the robot at a house party to doing it for Prince William, and Camila Cabello and performing it on the Jonathan Ross show, the English forward has given the public a lot of entertainment of the pitch. In his famous words, if he weren’t a footballer, he would be ‘A V*rgin’.
