Former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech made his professional debut in ice hockey on Sunday. The Premier League and UEFA Champions League winner now piles his trade at Belfast Giants, an ice hockey team in the Elite League. He made his professional debut against Glasgow Clan in a comfortable 5-1 win. The internet has reacted to the same, leaving Football fans in surprise at seeing the former goalkeeper excel in another sport.
Petr Cech made a name for himself guarding the sticks at Stamford Bridge on 494 occasions and winning 13 major titles. He holds the record for most clean sheets in the league as well, not letting in goals in 202 separate occasions. Cech also had a stint at Arsenal starting from 2015 that went on till 2019. He called time on his professional career in 2019 and immediately returned to Chelsea, taking charge as their technical and sporting advisor.
However, it was no secret that the Czechian had a strong interest in ice hockey. Months after retiring from football, the player began his career in ice hockey. The player made his professional debut coming on as a substitute for the Belfast Giants.
The side was comfortably leading 5-1 as the crowd called for Cech’s introduction. ‘We want Cech’ chants rang in the stadium as the player took to the post, in his role as netminder, a role similar to the goalkeeper’s in football.

Petr Cech made his professional debut in a 5-1 win for the Belfast Giants on Sunday. Following the victory, Cech spoke to the Press, telling them how he felt making his debut. The player, who is on a short-term loan deal at Belfast made the move from Oxford City Stars.
Cech explained his move to Belfast earlier this month., and said:
You don't say no to a team who are the Champions and treble winners. I am honored that the Giants and Adam Keefe showed confidence in me to help during a situation when both (netminders) were injured. I got the phone call and the rest is history.
The former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper sounded quite content. He also shed light on his experience as a netminder during a friendly match for Ukraine.
It's a hockey city and one can feel that.
After his debut, Cech expressed pride in the win, calling it a special moment. He emphasized his joy for the team, breaking a four-game losing streak by defeating Glasgow. Now, the next challenge awaits against Sheffield Steelers at home, but it’s uncertain if Cech will play for the home side.
