Legendary Goalkeeper and Chelsea legend Petr Cech has no shortage of iconic moments in his career. Following his retirement from football in 2019, he shifted his career to that of a netminder in ice hockey. Speaking in an interview for Sky Sports, the Czechian made a surprising admission that concerns bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Cech still holds the record for most Premier League clean sheets for a goalkeeper, not letting in goals on 202 separate occasions. He has made 494 appearances for the Blues, while also being part of the team that lifted 13 major titles, including multiple Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League. He made his debut in ice hockey back in November of last year.
When asked by Jamie Carragher on Sky about which current manager he would like to play under in the Prem, the Czechian had a surprising reply. He said:
If I take the rest of the managers (besides Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola), I think, when you see the current Tottenham manager, he seems like a really interesting character to play for.
Petr Cech said
However, the former Chelsea man clarified that Guardiola and Klopp are the obvious choices.
Ange Postecoglou, the current Tottenham Hotspur manager, had had a mixed bag in terms of output at the club. His start at the helm resulted in significant success for the club, as Spurs maintained their position at the top of the table for several matchdays. However, subsequent failures and inconsistency in results mean that Tottenham are now fifth in the table, with 47 points in 25 games. Besides football, the Spurs boss is also a lively character when it comes to interactions with the press. Nonetheless, fans were amused that a former Chelsea and Arsenal man would willingly opt to play for Tottenham!
Spurs slip out of top four as Wolves grab all three points at Tottenham
Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech’s claim might have come at an unfortunate moment as Tottenham failed to impress against Wolves at home. The North Londoners slipped up against 11th-placed Wolves as Aston Villa bypassed them into the top four. Postecoglou’s side were second best against a Wolves side who were on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Brentford.
Following the defeat, Postecoglou pointed to the slow start by his side as the reason for his defeat. Tottenham went behind right before half-time when a leaping header from Joao Gomes found the top right corner. Dejan Kulusevski pulled his side back into the game with a tight-angled finish in the early minutes of the first half. The home side tried for a second, but was kept out thanks to the Wolves defence and Jose Sa.
Tottenham’s undoing came in the 63rd minute, when Gomes finished off a sublime counter-attack, getting on the end of Pedro Neto’s assist. Postecoglou said:
They're a good team on the counter attack, they're set up that way.Ange Postecoglou on Wolves
Wolves are in 11th place following the win while Tottenham lost their top four spot to Aston Villa. The Claret and Blue beat Fulham by a goal to two, thereby rising to a Champions League spot.
