Spanish Police have officially raided the Spanish Football Federation office as part of a probe against FC Barcelona. The Catalan club has been accused of corruption and bribery, involving referees, to influence match results.

It also includes alleged payments in millions of dollars to former vice president of the refereeing committee. The raid was carried out on the orders of Judge Joaquin Aguirre. He is overseeing the case against Barcelona. However, no arrests have been made as of now.

The accusations have mounted for a long time, making claims like corruption, fraudulent management, and falsification of documents against Barcelona. The prosecutors also argue that the club paid Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira– a referee from 1994 to 2018, who was also a part of the committee- almost 7 million euros between 2001 and 2018. Now, a new case has also been registered against the club, making things worse for them.

However, Barcelona has denied any wrongdoing emphasizing that their payments were made for technical reports on referees and that it is normal. In a harsh turn of events for Barcelona, the case has gathered interest from UEFA, who might cancel the club’s participation in this season’s Champions League if found guilty.
