If there’s one trophy Mikel Arteta‘s Arsenal desperately want, it’s the Premier League title. The Gunners came agonizingly close to lifting the cup last season, but a late slip up meant that Arteta and co. came second. This year too, the Gunners are strong contenders for the title, and even though they are not top of the table, the club are very much there in the title race.
As Arsenal demolished Sheffield United in the Premier League on Monday, fans were given all the more reason to expect a strong push for the title this year as well. Declan Rice of all people, has told that the club has learnt from it’s mistakes and that they will go all in this year. Goals from five different players and a own goal to top things off saw Arsenal go within two points of the top.
If there’s one thing rival fans love, it is to rile up their opposition. In spite of a resounding 6-0 win, fans on X (formerly Twitter) came at the club’s supporters for even thinking of a possible Premier League triumph.
The club take on Chelsea, Manchester City and Brighton in their next five league games, and opponent fans are confident that come April, Arsenal will be out of the picture.
Rival fans unconvinced of 6-0 win, troll Arsenal for giving ‘fake’ title hopes
Six of Arsenal’s last seven Premier League games have saw the team score at least 3 or more against their opponents. Mikel Arteta’s men are in red-hot form and have an equal claim to the title as compared to Manchester City and Liverpool. However, a fan quickly poured water on Arsenal fans’ celebrations, and commented that all this hype was for them to eventually finish fourth at the end of the season.
Others reminded celebrating fans that they are looking down the barrel of elimination in the Champions League against Porto. A fan said that Arsenal are cooking ‘rubbish’ as they won’t be winning anything.
Another brought up how they miserably failed to lift the title last season after spending 247 nights on top of the Premier League. High score lines will be the only difference from last year and this year according to a fan who was convinced of Arsenal’s slip up.
Another chipped in to say that everyone hates Arsenal and that they were only winning against small teams. With the title race heading into a thrilling conclusion, fans are on their toes as to what the Premier League has in store for upcoming games. As it stands, Liverpool are at the top of the table, but with their game against Man City on Sunday, a draw might be the perfect opportunity for Arsenal to go top.
