Premier League clubs decided that all would join forces to stop fully leveraged buyouts in the league. This kind of buyout has been a problem and a prime example of such a scenario is Manchester United’s takeover by the Glazers. This decision of the Premier League again brought Man United into question who might just be on its way to a Qatar-based takeover.

This decision of the clubs would prevent the possible owners from borrowing money for the acquisition of the club. These buyouts are quite dangerous as they add huge debts and interest charges.

The Glazers, back in 2005, acquired Manchester United in the same fashion. In the future that resulted in huge debts on the shoulders of the club. Although they are still criticized for their action in the past they had to take money from the club to repay the debt. It was the same for Chelsea who were acquired by Todd Boehly with the help of Clearlake Capitals.

Although this decision might not be the best from where Man United is positioned right now. The club might be on for a possible Qatari takeover in the near future. But with this new change, things might not go as smoothly as they were previously planned. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the other principal bidder for the ownership of the club, will also fund the process through his company

Premier League clubs decided to stand tall against the unfortunate tragedy-related chanting in their league. The clubs have decided to the punishment for such chants to be a criminal prosecution against the offender.

The clubs came to this decision due to the previous year’s events, where such chants were heard during derbys. The victims of the tragedies or any soccer-related tragedies were taunted and made fun of.

In this current month, a Manchester United fan was arrested as he was found mocking the Liverpool fans by wearing a jersey that reportedly made a reference to the 1989 Hillsborough disaster in which 97 Liverpool fans were dead.

Manchester City and Chelsea supporters also made chants regarding this incident. But the clubs have apologized to Liverpool and asked the fans not to have any of such chants.

Premier League issued a statement after all the clubs decided to ban such chants. The statement read, “These issues have continued to cause significant distress to the victim’s families, survivors, and affected-club supporters, in addition to damaging the reputation of the clubs involved and football in England and Wales. The action will focus on criminal prosecution, the regulatory environment, enforcement, online abuse, education, and communications”.
