The Daily Mail recently detailed cases in which organized foreign criminal groups, often from Albania, have been targeting the residences of Premier League footballers, looting valuable items. The players in response have promptly spent thousands of pounds on security measures to safeguard their homes and possessions from these actions.
Several present and past Premier League stars such as Raheem Sterling, Joao Cancelo, Reece James, Victor Lindelof, Paul Pogba, and most recently, Kevin De Bruyne have fallen victim to these organized criminal groups. These groups, typically flying into the UK, specifically raid residences for high-value watches and jewelry, swiftly leaving once they’ve secured the stolen items. This alarming trend has instilled apprehension among players and club officials.
Many of the prominent players have started employing ex-British Special Forces officers (SAS) to protect their homes and families while they’re away, over growing concerns of organized crime. These anxious players have also implemented wide-ranging security systems for some time, which include the installation of high-end CCTV cameras, motion sensors, and virtual perimeters. Additionally, they’ve also constructed fortified steel-enforced panic rooms equipped with communication tools and increased the presence of house-sitters, bodyguards, and guard dogs around their residences.
Moreover, authorities have taken measures to safeguard players by advising them against sharing their travel details or holiday plans on social media, as this could potentially attract criminals. Many players have urged the government to take action against the perpetrators.
Kevin De Bruyne’s home raided by Albanian robber groups
Manchester City star, Kevin De Bruyne fell prey to the modus operandi of Albanian vigilante criminal groups, who ransack the houses of prominent football players in and around the United Kingdom. De Bruyne’s residence in the Belgian hamlet of Zolder was robbed, after he landed in Saudi Arabia along with the Citizens to participate in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup.

Injured Kevin De Bruyne stayed in Manchester instead of going back to Belgium to support his family. While he was away, his wife Michele Lacroix found out that their 70-acre estate was burglarized. The break-in happened between 4 pm and 9 pm on Saturday when De Bruyne was at a match in Manchester. The house was empty, and valuables were stolen. This incident highlights the security challenges faced by players when they’re not home.
