Paris Saint-Germain are one of those European giants that haven’t won the UEFA Champions League. Ever since they got taken over by the Qatari Investment Authority in 2011, their main goal has been to win the UCL. The closest they ever got to it was when they reached the finals in 2020 but lost to Bayern Munich.
Since then they have been knocked out of the Semi-final in 21 and the Round of 16 in the next two seasons. Now as they went into the 2023/24 season, they were expecting to challenge for yet another Champions League.
They somehow scrapped their way into the next round, being on equal points with AC Milan but with a higher goal difference. Finishing 2nd in the group, they faced the possibility of facing some of the stronger teams in the Champions League. So when the Round of 16 draw came, PSG must’ve hoped for an easy fixture. And they got away with one of the easier teams.
Real Sociedad, who finished 1st in their group, had gotten drawn to the French giants. PSG avoided clubs like Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona. However, Sociedad is not a team that can be taken lightly.
Fans warn PSG of Real Sociedad’s impressive form
Real Sociedad are so far unbeaten in their Champions League campaign. They were grouped with Inter Milan, RB Salzburg and Benfica. Despite the tough group, they won 3 and drew 3, finishing with 12 points. On the other side, PSG lost to Newcastle United and AC Milan, making them tied on points with AC Milan. Fortunately, their positive goal difference helped them qualify.
Many fans warned PSG of a game that would be tough. Many said they should not take the Spanish club lightly and should prepare accordingly. On the other side, many fans said the French club got an easy fixture and were only in the quarter-final due to a controversial call.
