PSG ready to make Manchester United striker ‘one of the highest-paid footballers’ in the world: Reports
As the fight for Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford’s future heats up, he might soon rank among the highest-paid football players. Rashford’s Man Utd contract expires at the end of the current campaign, but manager Erik ten Hag claims that the Red Devils want to exercise their right to a one-year extension.
United must act immediately because PSG, who had the England international on their summer shortlist, is still interested. The Ligue 1 club may be willing to make the 25-year-old “one of the best-paid footballers on the planet,” according to The Mirror. The newspaper claims that Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also showing interest.
The contract offer from PSG is expected to be close to €1 million per week (£850,000), which would require Manchester United to counter with an equivalent offer if they are serious about retaining him. Ben Jacobs, a football transfer expert, previously revealed that PSG feels as though the player’s entourage is pulling a trick on them even though their interest in Rashford is serious.
“I think they feel that they’re being a bit used over Rashford by the player’s side. The intent is to get the player to sign a new Manchester United deal, which is his preference.” But PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is certainly not ruling Rashford out. “He’s had a great World Cup,” he said.
Manchester United manager isn’t stressed on PSG’s interest in striker Marcus Rashford
For the time being, Rashford’s future doesn’t bother Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag. In reference to the players whose contract expire in 2023, he said: “We are talking to them to extend contracts, but we have control because we have an option on all the players and we will exercise those options.”
Indeed, with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe at the club, PSG are unlikely to make a move for Rashford during the January transfer window, and if they can persuade both of their superstar attackers to agree to stay for the 2023/24 season, Rashford’s interest may be discarded for the time being. The stakes have gone up, despite the fact that Man Utd holds the advantage with respect to the academy graduate.
