Following his 40th Champions League goal against Juventus, Kylian Mbappe overcame Lionel Messi as the most prolific player for Paris Saint-Germain. The French international started the scoring in their match against Juventus with a magnificent long-range strike, and PSG went on to win 2-1.

With his single goal, Kylian Mbappe scored his 40th goal in the Champions League, becoming the youngest player to do so aged 23 years and 316 days, breaking Lionel Messi’s previous mark of 24 years and 130 days. Mbappe has previously surpassed Messi each time he established the record for the youngest player to score 15, 20, 25, and 30 goals in the Champions League. Erling Haaland of Manchester City, who achieved those milestones earlier than Mbappe did, is currently nine goals behind Mbappe’s total of 40 goals with 19 months left to play.

Mbappe has 34 goals in 50 games for PSG in the Champions League. He had previously scored six goals for Monaco. He is now the 19th player in UCL history to score 40 or more goals. Mbappe currently has a share of the most goals in the UCL 2022–23 campaign (7). He is the first player to contribute to 10 goals thanks to his three assists as well. In Ligue 1, Mbappe has scored 11 goals and provided three assists. He has a total of 18 goals and six assists this season across all competitions.
