Manchester United invested heavily to bring in Danish striker Rasmus Højlund to the club. The 20-year-old forward has had a start to life at Old Trafford, managing to score just once in 15 appearances in the Premier League. United legend Roy Keane did not hold back after Rasmus Hojlund missed two ‘golden’ opportunities against Wigan Athletic on Monday.

The Red Devils managed to overcome Football League One side Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup. Even though goals from Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes were enough to earn them the win, Højlund’s struggles in front of goal called for harsh criticism. The forward managed to take 4 shots throughout the game, with 2 going wide of the target. His first attempt came in the form of a wayward header, which he couldn’t manage to keep down in front of goal.

Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund’s second and more embarrassing miss proved to be the breaking point for Roy Keane.

Keane however, praised Dalot for his positioning and composure in front of goal.

Højlund misses SITTER as Manchester United force 2-0 win against Wigan Athletic

Rasmus Højlund was at the center of attention against Wigan Athletic as Manchester United earned qualification to the 4th round of the FA Cup. His two misses in the first half highlighted his struggle in front of goal domestically. His second miss, however, has gone viral on social media. As Sam Tickle managed to push away a powerful strike from Marcus Rashford, the ball fell invitingly to Højlund.

However, contrary to the expected outcome, the ball hit Højlund on the calf as he failed to divert the ball into the post. His attempted ‘shot’ went agonizingly wide of an empty goal as the score remained 1-0. As for United’s goals, Dalot did well to curl his shot from the edge of the box. His shot went through a sea of Wigan defenders and past the keeper to make it 1-0.

Bruno Fernandes came through with the captain’s goal as he converted a spot kick in the second half. United now face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday. The Red Devils are in 8th position and 9 spots away from the top 4 and are in a poor run of form, having won just 3 of their last 10 games in all competitions. A tough sequence of games against Wolves, West Ham United, and Aston Villa await the team from Greater Manchester.
