In their recent Segunda Division match against Real Valladolid, RCD Espanyol‘s starting lineup came onto the field with adoptable dogs. This kickstarted their “Pericos do not abandon” campaign.

Before the Valladolid match, local animal rights organizations brought dogs to join the players, each wearing a scarf with the club’s logo. This campaign is part of the ‘Solidarity Super League.’ Espanyol stated that its goal is to raise awareness about animal abandonment and adoption in society. They also introduced special scarves to support the cause.

And are open to the general public for participation.

Espanyol faces their second stint in the Segunda division in three years. In 2020, they were demoted but swiftly returned to La Liga in one season. In 2023, they’re back in Segunda, with Martin Braithwaite and Javi Puado as the leading goal-scorers.

Luis Garcia, a former Real Madrid ‘C’ team manager hired in April 2023, faces a tough challenge, joining when the club was on the verge of relegation last season. With a full pre-season under their belt, Espanyol’s leadership is eager to see how far Luis Garcia can take the team.
