Real Madrid‘s Brazilian Star defender Eder Militao hyperextended his knee, rupturing his ACL against Bilbao. The player was in tears being helped off the pitch as he was set to undergo surgery. As such a heinous injury takes around six months to heal, Real Madrid is again in the market for another talented Brazilian 25-year-old defender.

A player that fits the profile ideally is Arsenal‘s Gabriel Magalhães. He has been under the radar of the Los Blancos for a long time as they look to make a move. With the transfer window in its last stages, it has to be a swift decision from the club. Gabriel was recently benched in Arsenal’s game against Forrest but was pivotal in Arteta’s memorable campaign last season.

He stood out as the only outfield player to feature in 38 games and has 10 goals. Being a defender and having attacking prowess can seduce any club, let alone Madrid. Sadly, Jurrien Timber, the 22-year-old who replaced Gabriel, also ruptured his ACL on his debut. Gabriel’s benching had added fuel to the Madrid interest. Still, it was cleared to be a ‘tactical decision’ With the severity of such seriousness at the London club, Gabriel’s role will rise significantly.

However, Gabriel has not given any official hints at his intentions amidst the rumors. It would be an exciting decision for the talented defender to make whether he should fulfill his same job at Arsenal or accept when Madrid knocks. Gabriel is a versatile player who can feature as the left-back as comfortably as he can as a ball-playing defender.

The Los Blancos have suffered from injury problems for over three seasons but always find a way. In their narrow win over Valencia in the Spanish Supercopa, issues seemed larger for the club than what met the eye. They had to withdraw players during the game. Defender Lucas Vasquez suffered from a twisted ankle. Eduardo Camavinga’s injury details are yet to be confirmed.

The club will have to look at defensive reinforcement with just Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez at full fitness. Even veteran Carvajal had to chip in minutes during his recovery and is expected to play again. Having lost David Alaba, their main goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and now Militao tearing their ACL, the club looks to be in serious trouble with their squad depth.

Madrid has been linked to Mbappe to fill in for Benzema again. Other names involved Fran Garcia and Gabriel from Arsenal. They suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Manchester City and lost the league to Barcelona. As the clubs proceed into the last days of the transfer window, the Los Blancos will have to make the right decisions and make them quick to improve their performances from last season.
