Manchester City and Real Madrid have faced each other thrice in the past four years in the Champions League. All of these ties have been in the Champions League knockouts, with City winning two of them.
Now they will face each other again in the ongoing Champions League, drawing each other in the quarter-finals. Arguably the two best teams in the world right now, this draw promises to be one that will be exciting for football fans. Their last meeting was a 4-0 win for City at home.
Real Madrid topped their group winning all their matches. They had beaten Napoli, Braga and Union Berlin to make their way to the Round of 16. They were drawn to RB Leipzig in the Round of 16, beating the German side 2-1 on aggregate to get to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
City had an easy run to the quarter finals as well. They had won all matches of their group as well, beating RB Leipzig, Young Boys and Crvena Zvezda. They were drawn to FC Copenhagen in the Round of 16, beating the Danish club 6-2 on aggregate.
Real Madrid will be hosting the first leg, with the match being played on the 9th of April. The 2nd leg will be played at the Etihad Stadium a week later, with the winner of the draw playing with the winner between Arsenal and Bayern Munich.
Fans annoyed that Manchester City vs. Real Madrid match up came early
When Real and City were drawn in the quarter-final, it left many fans distraught as they expected the two teams to play later in the tournament. Both teams claimed that they would easily win the tie, neutral fans were excited to watch the two best teams in the world facing each other. Many claimed the winner of this match would win the Champions League.

Currently, both teams are involved in title races in their respective leagues. Manchester City are a point behind Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League. They will soon face the Gunners at home.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid did struggle to top the league, but now are seven points ahead of Girona and eight ahead of FC Barcelona. City have the opportunity to complete another treble, as they still compete in the FA Cup, while Real Madrid can do a double at the most.
