Thibaut Courtois has recently shared an Instagram story, which has caused him to receive a lot of backlash. Sometimes, football can be a medium to support love and safety for people in misery, especially when they have family in war-prone areas. However, the Real Madrid player seems to have hurt the sentiments of a few Madridistas.
The ongoing tension between Palestine and Israel has caused several other footballers to receive backlash as well. Noticeably, Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko also received a lot of disgust and wrath from fans on social media for showing support for Israel.
The Real Madrid goalkeeper has been under scrutiny from people and fans of the club ever since he got married to his wife, Mishel Gerzig Courtois. She happens to be an Israeli and has multiple family members stuck in between the war-stricken situation.
Many fans had accused him of marrying a Zionist, claiming moral authority over his life choices for their likeness. While Courtois offered nothing but support to the people caught off guard, fans have expressed their disappointment against his wishes.
Twitter reacts to Thibaut Courtois’ showing support to family in Israel
Champions League-winning goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is the latest footballer to receive backlash from the fans over the story where he showed support for Israel. He safely offered his regards to his wife’s family stuck in Israel.
While some fans expressed disgust with the keeper, others have just shown shock/disbelief. Meanwhile, Madrid fans say they fall short on words- ‘not defendable’. Here are some of the reactions:
Courtois, as he recovers from an ACL injury, tried to work out and recover even on his honeymoon, as shared by his wife. This showcases his unraveled dedication to his prefinal life at Real Madrid.
As a human being and husband, he has already expressed his desire for peace on social media. But the call for support with Israel, at this point, does not seem to stand right amongst the football fans who believe otherwise.
