Real Madrid identifies Tottenham Hotspurs Son Heung-min as its main transfer target after missing out on Kylian Mbappe: Reports

Since joining Tottenham Hotspurs from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2015, Son Heung-min has developed into a world-class forward. The South Korean international had become the most expensive Asian player at the time, and he has come a long way in the last seven years to become Spurs’ talisman.

Son, 29, had a standout season in the Premier League for Tottenham last season, scoring 23 goals and sharing the golden boot with Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah. Carlo Ancelotti will look to bolster his options this summer after a number of departures following his second Champions League win as a manager with Real Madrid and fourth overall.

Both Gareth Bale and Isco will leave this summer after their contracts expire, and there are reports that Marco Asensio, who has been linked with Liverpool and AC Milan, may also leave. After chasing Kylian Mbappe for so long, Real Madrid were left disappointed when the Frenchman decided to stay at Paris Saint-Germain.

The club is now forced to look for alternatives, and the Spurs forward could be the ideal fit. His 23 goals were crucial in Antonio Conte’s side edging out bitter rivals Arsenal to the fourth and final Champions League spot, carrying the team through some difficult months.

It’s unclear how much the Spanish giants would have to pay to lure the South Korean international away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but as they know from previous deals for Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, Daniel Levy drives a hard bargain.

Son signed a new contract with Spurs last summer, committing him to the club until at least 2025, so the club has no reason to sell, as it did with Harry Kane last summer.
