Legendary centre-back Sergio Ramos reminisced about his goal against Atletico Madrid in the 2014 UEFA Champions League final. Today marks the ninth anniversary of the iconic goal by the Spaniard.

He quoted a tweet by the official Real Madrid CF account celebrating the goal, writing, “9 years to the day since the most important goal of my career.” Real Madrid was two minutes away from watching local rivals Atletico Madrid celebrate the European Cup when Ramos sprang to head a corner kick into the bottom of the goal. Los Blancos eventually won the trophy in extra time.

The then 28-year-old defender dedicated the goal to the fans, labelling his equaliser as his best goal ever after the game. “This goal isn’t mine. It is for all Real Madrid fans, my family and all who supported us to the end,” Ramos said. “We deserve this after so many years. It’s my most important goal. It’s incredible to make the fans happy by fighting to the end.”

Rumours suggested Sergio Ramos was set for a move to Saudi Arabia, but he now looks likely to extend his PSG adventure. The legendary Spanish defender is reportedly making a financial effort to stay in France.

Sergio Ramos has recovered after a first year ruined by injuries to the point where some even speculated a possible early end to his career. The 37-year-old may not be the colossal defender he once was with Spain and Real Madrid, but he has brought experience to the dressing room and a keen eye for goal in Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

There are several signs that Luis Campos, who was leading the negotiations for PSG, and Sergio Ramos have agreed on an extension. Sources say he is willing to reduce his wages by 50%, and his objective is to help the club win the Champions League for the first time in their history.
